Microfluidics has received much attention over the past decade in diverse fields including chemical synthesis, biological sensing, medical diagnostics, and environmental analysis. The miniaturized Lab-on-a-chip system reduces the time and cost of bulk chemical processes with improved safety and selectivity compared to those of conventional vessel reactors.
Our group has worked on 3 major themes: fabrication of various chemical resistant lab-on-a-chip using inorganic polymers and polyimide film, built-in microchannels, and droplet microfluidic synthesis. In this talk, the specific themes will be presented at the below:
Continuous and simultaneous reaction/separation of ibuprofen racemate was performed by triple laminar flow of organic, ionic liquid and aqueous medium in solvent resistant microfluidic channel. Lipase catalyzed chemical reaction facilitates esterification in a short period with no membrane matrix and structures.
Glass-like electrokinetic performance of new materials-based Lab-on-a-chip. One type is a glass modified PDMS microchannel by a simple phase conversion process of coated preceramic polymer on PDMS. Another type is a hydrophilic organic-inorganic hybrid resin microchannel fabricated by direct micromolding process.
Macroporous or nanoporous structures are built in the microchannel by using various lithographic methods, which are useful for mixer, heterogeneous catalyst supporters.
