Protein mechanics and engineering:from singlemolecules to biomaterials报告人:李宏斌Associate Professor and Canada Research Chair Department of Chemistry University of British Columbia时间:11月2日(星期一)下午3点地点:玉泉校区教八(化学楼)107室Elastomeric proteins are subject to stretching force under biological settings and play important roles in regulating the mechanical properties of a wide range of biological machinery. They also underscore the superb mechanical properties of many protein-based biomaterials. The developments of single molecule force spectroscopy techniques have enabled the direct characterization of the mechanical properties of elastomeric proteins at the single molecule level and led to the new burgeon filed of research: protein mechanics and engineering. Combining single molecule atomic force microscopy, protein engineering and steered molecular dynamics simulations techniques, we have carried out systematic studied to understand the molecular determinants for the mechanical stability of elastomeric proteins at the single molecule level. These studies have enabled us to control the mechanical properties of elastomeric proteins in a rational and reversible fashion and to develop a series of novel elastomeric proteins with tailored and well-defined nanomechanical properties. These novel artificial elastomeric proteins are ideal building blocks for the construction of biomaterials for applications in material sciences and biomedical engineering.References1. Li, H. B. Adv.
