报告人:袁稽康博士报告题目:“Manganese Oxide Octahedral Molecular Sieves (OMS) Nanoscale Materials:Synthesis, Self-Assembly, Control over Morphologies/Tunnel Structures and Their Applications ”摘要:Manganese oxides octahedral molecular sieves (OMS) materials are synthesized via various methods including hydrothermal treatment and reflux. Control over the synthetic parameters results in formation of manganese oxides octahedral molecular sieves nanomaterials with different tunnel structures and morphologies. Ultralong nanowires of OMS with 2x2 tunnel structures have been synthesized via hydrothermal method with hard templates as growth direction agents. The nanowires can be further self-assembled to form free-standing membranes that are similar to the structures of commercial paper (OMS-2 nanowire paper). Mesoporous manganese oxide hollow nanospheres are prepared by facile reflux method. The mesoporous hollow nanospheres demonstrate higher catalytic performance compared with manganese oxide synthesized via routine methods. Manganese oxide with 2x2 tunnel structures can also be made by precisely controlling redox conditions. The OMS nanoneedls and nanorods with special morphologies can be used as building blocks and substrates for preparation of nanomaterials with novel morphologies. The as-synthesized OMS materials can be used as catalysts, selective sorbents, and energy-storage materials for next-generation secondary battery. 报告时间:2009年5月 7 日(星期四)上午10:00 报告地点:玉泉校区教八-107 Dr. Jikang Yuan received his BS/MS from University of Science &Technology of China and Ph.D. in Materials Science in 2006 from University of Connecticut. He jointed Professor Jing Kong’s group at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow (2006-2008). He is currently an Assistant Professor in The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Dr. Yuan initiates the effort and has developed novel nanowire-paper materials that demonstrates excellent selectivity for oil-water separations. He is also a Chief Technical Officer (CTO) and partner of a MIT-emerged start-up company that focuses on developing of novel nanomaterials for selective separation and energy-storage. He worked with a team at RLE of MIT on environmental protection that resulted in consecutively winning the Awards of 2007-2008 “MIT Materials Day”Dr. Yuan’s research results were published in Nature Nanotechnology, JACS, Advanced Materials, Advanced Functional Materials and were high-lighted/reported/interviewed by Nature, Science, Times, Economist, Discover Channel, New Scientist, C &E, MRS, CNN and CBS etc.
