Institute of Catalysis of Zhejiang University was established in the year of 1978. The founder is the Chinese prestigious physical chemist Professor Songshou Jin. It started to enroll master students since 1964 and doctoral students since 1995. In 1984 it became the Zhejiang Province Key Discipline, and established the Zhejiang Province Applied Chemistry Key Laboratory. It is approved of the National Key Discipline during 2007. After 40 years’ development, it has become the production, learning and research base with advanced hardware, suitable age structures and specific research focus under the lead of both Professor Songshou Jin and Xiaoming Zheng, all staff and students. Currently, 23 staff works in the Institute of Catalysis including 11 professors and researchers, in which 1 hold the Project supported by the National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars of China, 3 hold the Project supported by the National Science Foundation for Excellent Young Scholars of China, and 1 is among The National Youth Talent Support Program. The number of associate professor and researcher is 10.Also there are several post doctors and over 100 postgraduates. The major research interest includes: (1) Energy chemistry, the stress focus on basic application research and exploitation of catalysts and catalytic process regarding biomass, methane, syngas and carbon dioxide. (2) Development of catalysts for environmental protection, the stress focus on development of catalysts and reaction apparatus for industrial hazardous gas, vehicle emissions, oil smoke from hotels and restaurants and indoor gas. (3) Synthesis, characterization of functional porous carbon materials and their applications in the green synthesis in fields of medicine, pesticide and fine chemical. (4) Research in heterogeneous and homogeneous catalytic reaction kinetics and surface chemistry. (5) Catalytic research regarding military project. |
