Welcome to Jie Fan’s laboratory at Chemistry Department of Zhejiang University.

Our research interests are primarily associated with basic science in physical chemistry, materials chemistry, bio-chemistry and interface chemistry and their practical importance in the development of energy-harvesting, environment-protecting, and life-saving systems.

News!!!
03/05/2009 Sha Li, Yu Tang, and Jiabing Le joined our group, welcome!
12/11/2008 Congratulations on the great performance of our group members on their self-directed drama show “The life in the Lab” in the celebration of 2009 new year, which was held on Dec. 27th for the graduates in Chem. Dept.
12/11/2008 Dr. Sheng Dai (one of our international collaborators) from Oak Ridge National Laboratory visited the Chemistry Department and gave a talk titled Assembly of Functional Nanostructures: From Mesoporous Carbon Materials to Gold Catalysts. Dr. Dai was selected as Yongqian Chair Professor of our department in Mar. 2008
10/10/2008 Prof. Galen D. Stucky (my post-doc advisor) visited the Chemistry Department and gave a talk titled Controlling Bio-processes with Inorganic Species and Surfaces.

Position openings: We are interested in recruiting postdocs with a range of backgrounds, from inorganic material synthesis to biocatalysis. To inquire about a postdoc position, please email Dr Jie Fan with your CV and names of 2 references.

A letter to prospective students

Dear Prospective Students:

Thank you for taking the time to view our website. On behalf of our research group, I invite you to consider our ongoing projects, and feel free to contact me regarding future opportunities for pursuing your Ph.D. studies at ZJU.

Students in the group will usually get involved in a multitude of projects during their graduate school careers. One can anticipate gaining experience in several areas of research, including inorganic synthesis, material characterization, heterogeneous catalysis, and bio-immobilization and catalysis.

What you will have in this group? 1) freedom, every graduate/postdoc will have kind of freedom on his/her research, you have to think for yourself. 2) fun, I strongly believe that people working in this group should have fun at work:-)

What you need have to be a member of this group? Your passion to science. You have to like what you will be doing. You need to be fascinated by the chemistry and materials.

Should our programs interest you further, you are very welcome to apply and visit us in Hangzhou.

Sincerely,

Dr. Jie Fan
