On August 3rd, the 2019 summer exchange program between Department of Chemistry of Zhejiang University and the National University of Singapore came to a successful conclusion as the students stepped on the plane back to China. Under the leadership of Prof.Tang Guping, 22 students from the Department of Chemistry and other 63 students from other colleges, spent an unforgettable and meaningful three weeks in the chemical biology project and the chemical and biological engineering project respectively.
The exchange and cooperation between the Department of Chemistry of Zhejiang University and the National University of Singapore has been going on for a long time and has formed a benign interaction. This year, based on the previous chemical biology projects, a new chemical and biological engineering project has been opened to stimulate students' greater enthusiasm for learning and interest in learning.
In terms of course design, the two projects continue the characteristics of rich contents and diverse forms of courses like previous years: the interactive teaching arrangement of the three modules of "course-experiment-lecture", which not only makes students feel novel and interesting about knowledge, but also maintains a certain sense of tension. In addition, students can gain knowledge beyond books in lectures and seminars. It is worth mentioning that students often try to answer questions actively in class. In the classroom, many students also ask questions to the professor, creating a good interactive atmosphere between teachers and students.
At the end of the course, there are group research learning results display and comprehensive test, and these two parts together constitute the final scores of students. While encouraging students to communicate and help each other and learn from each other, the former provides students with a platform to show their self-charm and an opportunity to practice their English speaking, while the latter is a comprehensive test of what they have learned in the past three weeks. Fortunately, the students from the department of chemistry in the chemical and biological engineering project, with their hard work and excellent performance, finally won three of the six places in this project and two of the top three places in the biology project.
Outside the classroom, teachers from the National University of Singapore also arranged a variety of visits for students.From the university museum to the Singapore botanical garden;From Garden by the Bay to Jurong island...Everywhere left the students’ footprints and laughter, sublimation precipitation into a beautiful memory engraved in my mind.
After the exchange study, the students from the department of chemistry all said that they had gained a lot. Pu, a student from the chemical and biological engineering project, says, "going abroad for exchange is supposed to broaden our field of vision and experience. To be specific, we not only learned a lot, but also got close contact with some academic leaders, and also had time to explore the local culture of Singapore.
