On July 14, 2018, 18 undergraduates from the Department of Chemistry set off from Zhejiang University and finally arrived at the National University of Singapore after more than five hours of flying. Then they started the busy three-week study life.
The main content of the course is the whole process of green fluorescent protein expression by using the genetic engineering. They learned how to start from the reverse transcription of genes to the final step--the expression of green fluorescent protein. The English language class was a little difficult, but thanks to everyone's joint efforts, they all overcame the difficulties.Every afternoon students conducted experiments on genetic engineering. During these experiments, they learned how to design primers, how to transcribe and translate genes. After the course, each group conducted a poster production and a group presentation about literature of green fluorescent protein. All the students gained a lot. In a word, studying in Singapore gave them a better understanding of biochemistry.
In addition to learning, this trip to Singapore also has a lot of exciting after-school activities. Visiting the labs of the research groups has broadened their horizons. The activity of Bowling promotes their communication skills with students from other schools. The durian party let them taste a variety of durians. A visit to the museum, New water and botanical gardens on Saturday, let everyone feel the culture of Singapore. The most touching thing is the talent show of all the teachers and classmates at the final closing party. At the end of this closing party, everyone sang a "friend" together.
All in all, the travel to Singapore has left everyone with many beautiful and memorable memories. Thanks to the teachers and classmates who helped all the students in this three-week study life.
